For people that have had bad experiences with Paypal

For people that have had bad experiences with Paypal have a look at http://www.paypalsucks.com/. I was quite amazed at the problems people had with Paypal’s methods.

They routinely shut down people’s accounts for minor things. It doesn’t seem to matter if you have thousands of transactions and are a loyal customer. It has been a while but it happened to me once. You are treated as a guilty low life. The appeal process is quite weird. Please form your own opiniion but I would not recommend leaving large balances in your account.

DMOZ is down

Dmoz.org has been down for at least 14 hours.  Last night , when doing a routine check for valid directories in our list I noticed that dmoz was down. It has been down all morning.

It is likely a  denial of service attack or some other hacker type of attack.  The site  certainly is not popular with everybody.

Update: June 24th 12:00 AM EST dmoz.org is back up.

Should I Upgrade to Firefox 3.0?

Firefox released a  new version of their popular open source web browser this week.   Their supporters were hoping to set a record.  The browser  was downloaded more than 8 million times within the first 24 hours it was available.  I bet Microsoft if envious, wishing people were installing Vista at that pace (or at least not uninstalling it).

Should I Upgrade to Firefox 3.0?

The answer  is Yes, with one exception (see below). Firefox has an excellent reputation and early feedback is mostly  positive.  The install is clean and the new browser works well. There are some nice new features that you can see with many more in the background.

Exception:  If you have some third party extensions that you just cannot live without then I suggest that you wait.  There were quite a few add-ons that have not been updated so you won’t be able to use them.  The good news is that extensions are been upgraded  every day. Within a week or two most add-ons should be compatible.
