Google PageRank has Updated

Google rolled out a full update of their toolbar PageRank this week.   Haven’t seen anything earth shattering yet.  As usual, some directories have gone up and some have gone down.  I am in the process of updating PR on the list of directories but it will take about 4 more days.  I can only update about 2400 per day.  I will then produce some new PageRank stats.

Huge list of 400 Blog Directories and 150 RSS Feeds

After a full week of research and review, we are happy to announce that we have about 400 blog directories and 150 RSS Feeds.  We have added hundreds of blogs to our blog directory list and a bunch of new RSS feed directories. The list has never been in such good shape. Blogs directories are one of the few directories that can still provide your site with some real traffic.

We have also gone through most of the existing listings.  I have noticed that quite a few blog directories have stopped providing direct links to the blogs.  They are using redirect or nofollow links.  I have updated over a dozen of these in the list.

We have also created a new list of DoFollow Blog Directories. This category has directories and search engines that list blogs that provide only dofollow links in comments…

If you know of a blog or RSS Feed that is not on the then just add it a comment below in this format.

  • URL*:
  • Cost*: Free, Paid or Reciprocal
  • DoFollow:  SEO friendly links, redirect links or nofollow links
  • Comments: Include 3-10 words if there is something different about the directory

I’ll get them added to the list right away.

Why are so many directories using the same categories?

I have noticed a real problem over the last month.  I keep seeing directories with the same category structure. Not just a couple, not just a dozen, not just a hundred.  There are hundreds out there with the exact same categories.  Every week I see 20-50 new ones.

I am trying to figure out why there are so many.  There are some free category dumps out there that many people use when starting a directory.  I know someone has said “why create 1 good directory when I can create 200 directories that are exactly the same”.   In many cases these directories are often created to be sold.

Google does not care for content that is  not original. Much of it gets put in to the supplemental results where it rarely sees the light of day. By nature, directories already have a problem of having too much identical listings.

If anyone has any ideas I would love to hear them.

List of Manual Directory Submission Services

Here is a new list of directory submission services. The list outlines the most popular manual submission services along with the sites that rank highest in Google for the term “directory submissions service”. The table provides useful information like the the types of packages offered and their price ranges, and how long they have been in the directory submission business.

Not all submission services are created equal. These are some of the better, most trustworthy one around. Directory submission can be an easy and inexpensive SEO tool but you are putting a bit of trust in the company you choose. You always want to stay in Google’s good books. Personally, I would stay away from the ones that will submit your site to over 500 directories. I know that there are not that many good free directories out there that are still approving free submissions.

Do not submit to GeoCities directories - Yahoo has pulled the plug on GeoCities

Geocities has stopped accepting new customers and is expected to close down by the end of the year.   As a result, any directories still using the Geocities free host will be disappearing  at some point.  I see much less Geocities directories of late.  They used to be quite popular.

Yahoo bought GeoCities for $3.57 Billion in 1999, during the dotcom boom.
