A fix for the DP Keyword Tracker for Bing Searches

This post is for users of the Digital Point Keyword Tracker tool. When Microsoft replaced it’s MSN search with Bing.com the results stopped working on the Keyword Tracker. The tracker has not worked since the end of May.

Today, an angel posted code to fix the problem.

Once logged in to the Keyword tracker, go to “Edit Preferences” at the top.

Within the preferences, find the field for “URL To Advanced Usage Script“. You should have specified the name of a script that you stored on your own server (for Microsoft and Yahoo searches).
Edit this script replacing the following line of text:

$data = get_page (’search.msn.com’, ‘/results.aspx?q=’ . urlencode ($_REQUEST[’q']) . ‘&first=’ . $start . ‘&count=10&format=rss’);

with

$data = get_page (’www.bing.com’, ‘/search?q=’ . urlencode ($_REQUEST[’q']) . ‘&first=’ . $start . ‘&count=10&format=rss’);

Please note that the quotes above should be straight quotes rather than curly quotes.

. You can copy the code from the DP post for details.

If you have any questions you are welcome to post them in the comments section.

Web-directories.ws reaches the 13,000 listings and 3000 free directories

Web-Directories.ws has reached the 13,000 directory listing mark. We have reached this mark despite our effort to concentrate on quality rather than quantity. For many months the size of the database actually shrunk as we deleted hundreds of directories that were parked. We had to do a manual review as most of these do not get kicked out when we use the automated tool to validate links. We attacked the listings in various manual and automated manners to clean it up. The information is as current as it will ever get.

Just this week we added an additional 300 free directories to raise the total to 3000 free directories. We also added over a hundred article directories.

Over the last year we have added thousands of new niche and regional directories. These seem to be doing well based on our latest Pagerank statistics.

I would like to thank our increasing loyal users who send in directory reports to identify inappropriate and mis-categorized directories. Thank you and I hope to hear from you.

Add your directory to our list of 12,000 directories

Update Oct 9, 2009 -  This post has been replaced.  Please visit the new submission post.

Our site is a categorized collection of most of the web directories on the net.  We add most of the submissions through our research.  If we have missed yours please suggest it below.   As our list is inclusive we generally add all directories.  We never ask for any type of payment, although we do sell advertising on some parts of the site. Our only criteria is that the directory should have some type of submission process. We also do not list adult directories. Please note that lower quality directories may be given a nofollow attribute.

To have your directory considered for inclusion in our list of directories simply add a comment to this post in the following format:

  • URL*:
  • Type*: (e.g. general, travel, blogs, UK, USA, German language)
  • Cost*: Free, Paid or Reciprocal (a free directory provides “dofollow” listings without requiring  anything in return).
  • Comments: Include 3-10 words if there is something about the directory that sets it apart.

Example

  • URL*: environmentaldirectory.net
  • Type*: Niche  - environmental
  • Cost*: Reciprocal

In order to reduce automated submissions only comments in the above format will be reviewed. Add as many as you want in a post. We usually add sites every 10 days unless high volumes warrant quicker updates.

Click the comments link below.

Note: This thread replaces the previous post that has over 500 comments.  A small percentage of users have reported a blank  screen when they try to add a comment. We suspect that these people are getting caught in the blog’s Askimet spam software.  If you receive a blank screen please use our contact form to email your information.

Updated Directory PageRank Stats

Here are updated statistics after Google’s latest PR update from the end of June. The stats were compiled from our database of over 12,000 web directories.

Directory PageRank Statistics as of July 7, 2009

Directory PageRank Stats

Directory PageRank have been very strong over that last 2 Google updates.

The following factors may have affected these numbers:

  • The N/A directories were reduced  because I manually cleaned up hundreds of dead directories.
  • Most of our submissions that we get come from brand new directories, meaning that we are constantly adding new PR0 and N/A to our database.
  • I often go out of my way to add large networks of directories that are stored on the same IP. More often than not these directories are still N/A or PR0 years after being created.  This time I added some of the networks but gave up because there were too many of them.
  • Since many of the directories are add by the editor of this site, the results cannot be considered random. The results of any given date can be skewed by the types of directories that were added in the previous period.

As a result of the factors above, the statistics produced are more useful when looking at long-term trends rather than the results of individual PageRank updates.

The following table is a comparison of PageRank before and after the latest update.
